Makena

Makena, the furthest point south on the southwest coast of Maui, is located just south of Wailea. Best known for it's beautiful white sandy beaches and it's up-scale condos and resort. If you follow the road south from Makena you come to the famous "Big Beach" a spot where serious surfers and sun bathers must visit. The road ends at anchient lava flows from Mt Haleakala that has great hiking paths to extreme desolation. If you go here to hike be sure to wear good hiking shoes or boots, the lava can be as sharp as glass.
